Free NYS Parks Pass for 4th Grade Families!

By Jenna Slade- Macaroni Kid Saugerties-Catskill-Hudson-Rhinebeck September 8, 2023

Did you know you can get in free to New York State Parks when you're with your 4th grader?

A lot of our state park time is spent camping, so our access is included in our camping fee, but sometimes we just want to spend the day at a beach, lake, or on a hike.   We were headed up to North South Lake the day before school started and I realized i never renewed my annual pass. They expire in December, so I didn't feel like buying one just for a few months.  I did a quick search and found out about the every kid outdoors program.  This is a program that will give 4th graders and their family free access to National Parks.

Every-Kid-in-a-Park Pass: 4th Grade Free Entry Program. New York State Parks will accept the pass upon presentation for free entry for 4th grade students into all State Parks (must be present in vehicle).

What will you find while exploring? Who has spotted the dinosaurs at North South Lake?

While checking in to the state parks, ask the staff if they partcipate in the Junior Naturalist Patch program.  Every year a new animal is chosen for children to learn about. They complete tasks in a small notebook, and once finished they can collect their Junior Natrualist Patch.  Here are some from previous years, this year is the 25th anniversary!

To benefit from this free pass, all fourth-graders have to do to is complete an online adventure diary (about 3 questions). The most current pass is valid Sept. 1, 2023, through Aug. 31, 2024.  Sign up for this free program now! Hope you have fun!
